Project description
With the listed building complex ‘Zentrum am Zoo’ in Berlin’s City West, Bayerische Hausbau took over a traditional but ageing property from the 1950s in 2003. The company carried out extensive refurbishment work to create a lively urban quarter offering shopping, restaurants, entertainment and hotels.
The centrepiece of the historic ensemble is the 200-metre-long, light-flooded concept shopping mall, where unusual brands and alternative shop concepts come together. The highlight of the architectural design is located at the rear of the Bikinihaus: The 7,000 square metre, freely accessible, green roof terrace – built on top of a new two-storey building. The modernised area also includes the legendary ‘Zoo Palast’ cinema, the large high-rise building on Hardenbergplatz, a small high-rise building with the 25hours design hotel and a multi-storey car park.
