Project description
The highly specialised German Centre for Heart Failure (DZHI) aims to boost cutting-edge clinical research and scientific competitiveness in this disease area. The centre, which is unique in Germany, brings together researchers from various disciplines under one roof to develop new concepts and effective strategies for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of heart failure. The 5,500 square metre building is located on one of the last available plots of land at the University Hospital of Würzburg and meets the highest spatial and technical standards. The necessary functional structure was realised by dividing the building into a tower and a base. The seven-storey tower houses all the laboratories, offices and the technical centre, while the base accommodates the test subject area, animal husbandry and molecular imaging. The glass entrance and representation level also houses a lecture theatre and training rooms. The new building blends in sensitively with its surroundings: a white ribbon façade accentuates the cubature of the DZHI and continues the bright appearance of the neighbouring clinic buildings.
